My family and I made it to Yellowstone from STL in May of ‘91. We didn’t have a bunch of money, and we brought every bit of food we would eat across the entire 2 weeks (kids were 3 and 9), but it was, of course, the trip of a lifetime, filled with beauty and wonder. We made a plan to return every five years, if possible; while that didn’t happen in 1996, we managed to get back to the West in 2002, and made it to other national parks in CA. I’ll be forever grateful for these memories and for all that my family learned and experienced in these incredibly special places.
