REI

What better way to burn off the calories from turkey and pumpkin pie than to explore the great outdoors? At least that’s what REI hopes you will do with their new #OptOutside campaign. Read about what our partners are up to and other national park news in this week’s round-up, including a new picture book by former First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna Bush Hager.

Lace Up Your Hiking Boots and #OptOutside

Stores in recent years made news by kicking off the holiday shopping season a day early on Thanksgiving, immediately after turkey. REI is doing something different. The outdoor enthusiast store is walking the talk and closing its doors on Black Friday with their new initiative, #OptOutside. REI believes “that being outside makes our lives better” and they want to make the choice between meandering the malls and meandering the trails a little easier by closing all 143 stores. Executives are encouraging all REI employees to get outdoors by giving them a paid day off. Will you #OptOutside this Black Friday? #FindYourPark is a great way to #OptOutside. Share your adventure on findyourpark.com.
